Low-Stress Training

Did you know that Low Stress Training (LST) is one of the most popular techniques for cultivating cannabis plants worldwide? In fact, over 95% of professional cannabis growers incorporate some form of LST into their process. This widespread use highlights its proven effectiveness—and why it’s a method worth trying for yourself.

As the name suggests, Low Stress Training involves carefully guiding and shaping your plants to create a structure that maximizes light penetration and airflow. This improved structure not only supports healthier growth but also significantly enhances your plant’s overall yield. In this guide, we’ll take you through the entire LST process, step by step, from the seedling stage all the way to flowering.

Stage 1: Main Stalk Setup

Timing: 3 to 4 weeks after germination

Stage 1 focuses on optimizing your main stalk for maximum light exposure while laying the foundation for a robust structure. This step is crucial for supporting the development of larger, denser buds as your plant matures. Be sure to perform this stage promptly; waiting too long can cause the stalk to grow too large or woody, increasing the risk of breakage.

Stage 2. Branch Management

When: 2 to 3 weeks after stage 1 (can be repeated multiple times)

Stage 2 of cannabis training, Branch Management, focuses on achieving consistent bud size throughout your grow space. This step helps ensure that all your buds develop evenly. You can start this stage 2 to 3 weeks after completing Stage 1, and it can be repeated a few times depending on the length of your vegetative phase. However, for autoflowers, you only get one opportunity to perform this step.

Stage 3: Bud Support

When: 3 weeks after flowering During Stage 3, known as Bud Support, your plant prepares to bear the weight of the heavy, dense buds it's beginning to develop. Providing proper support at this stage is crucial to prevent your plant from drooping or collapsing under the strain of its growing flowers.
